Load Notes: All loads were tested in a short-action Remington Model 700 chambered in .25 Souper by Charlie Sisk. The rifle featured a 24-inch Lilja barrel with a 1:10-inch twist and was topped with a 3-9x36 Swarovski scope set to 6x. Remington .243 Winchester cases were necked up using a Redding full-length sizing die, and CCI 200 Large Rifle primers were seated with an RCBS hand priming tool. Powder charges were individually hand-weighed on an Ohaus scale to produce velocities appropriate for the cartridge. Velocities were measured at 14 feet using an Oehler Model 35 chronograph. Accuracy was determined by firing a single three-shot group for each load.

.25 Short Krag

The .25 Short Krag is one of the more interesting and lesser-known wildcat cartridges developed from the historic .30-40 Krag case. Created during the golden age of American cartridge experimentation, the .25 Short Krag traces its roots to the work of pioneering wildcatters who sought to maximize velocity and efficiency by necking larger cases down to smaller calibers. The cartridge is generally associated with the work of P.O. Ackley and other early experimenters who explored numerous variations of the Krag case in pursuit of improved ballistic performance.
