.400 Jeffery NE 450/400 3-inch Reloading Data

Warning! Historical Notes: This cartridge was designed by Jeffery in 1902. According to Pondoro Taylor, the short case was brought out because the longer blackpowder cartridge had a tendency to stick in the chamber after firing. Overall length is shorter, but the shoulder is farther forward. The 400 Jeffery was designed exclusively for Cordite; it was never available with black. As with the 3 1/4-inch version, this was very popular before the 375 H&H Magnum appeared. It is still one of the most effective all-round cartridges for Africa. (Cartridges of the World 9th Edition)
